Pvt. John Rowell, Jr. is now a member of 508th Parachute
Infantry. in combat training at Camp Mackall. His mother, Mrs. Pearl Rowell, resides Rt. No. 1, Box 110, Garysburg.
He joined the Army December 3, 1942 and won his wings as a United States parachutist on Mar. 12, 1943. Before entering the service he studied at Gaston, and later worked at Rosemary Manufacturing Co.
The 508th Parachute regiment, made up of trained jumpers, recently returned to
camp from airborne maneuvers in the field. The commanding general, impressed by its "excellent showing**, commended "the spirit and discipline shown at all times by the men, in spite of
inclement weather, fatigue, loss of deep and hunger.” The 508th is commanded by Colonel Roy E.
