RETURN TO CAMP SHANKS - TWO SIDED HANDOUT

ASF, NYPE. CAMP SHANKS, N.Y.

1. YOUR BARRACKS is Bldg No Street Area No.

2. YOUR BAGGAGE: (Hand Baggage) has been placed on the street in the vicinity of the Barracks in which you are to be billeted.
          Claim  your baggage immediately after you have been billeted. In event of inclement weather, recover hand baggage
           from Bldg. No __________. In event of inclement weather, recover hand baggage from Blgd. No.__________

                      (Hold Baggage) A. For RO and TD Personnel will be recovered from Baggage Warehouse No_ and will accompany you to
                      your Reception Station. Group leaders will specify hours to recover Hold Baggage.
                      B. For CAT II UNIT Personnel has been shipped to your Assembly Station. This post has no control over Category II Unit hold
                             baggage.
                      C. FOR CAT.IV UNIT Personnel, same as A above.

3. SHIPMENT OF PERSONAL BAGGAGE. Personal baggage and personal effects may be shipped direct to your home by Railway Express "Collect: from Baggage Warehouse Building No. __________ Wrapping materials may be obtained at small cost, from Warehouse. Enlisted Men will not ship any government property nor will they ship anything in barracks bags or duffle bags. Officers my ship any effects including trunk lockers.

4. YOUR MESS HALL is located in your area on __________ Street. Mess Hours are:

                      BREAKFAST.  __________       DINNER __________       SUPPER __________

                      All officers and enlisted men will eat in the same consolidated Mess Hall. Mess equipment is furnished. Officers will pay cash
                      for meals at the rate off 25˘ a meal.

5. TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAMS. No calls can be made nor messages sent until after your unit or group has been cleared by the
                      Disposition Area Headquarters. Your Unit or group leader will then give you a Telephone and Telegraph Pass. Go to the
                      nearest Telephone and Telegraph Center.

6. PURCHASE OF PERSONAL ITEMS A. Tobacco can be obtained only upon presentation of your Tobacco Ration Certificate.
                                                          B. PX supplies are available in your Area PX.
                                                          C. Luggage is available at your PX and at the Enlisted Men's Clothing Store located in Area 7
                                                          D. Officers may obtain PX supplies at the Officers Exchange on Western Highway near Post Office,
                                                               and at Quartermaster Sales Office, Area #9.

7. NO VISITORS ALLOWED. Do not invite relatives nor friends to visit you while you are here. For reasons of security and because your stay
           here is SHORT, visitors are not allowed at Camp Shanks.

8. FOREIGN CURRENCY EXCHANGE. A Finance Office representative will exchange your foreign currency at the Telephone and Telegraph
           Center.

9. SICK CALL. RO & TD Personnel will report to the Disposition Area Headquarters.
                      T/D UNIT Personae! should report to their Company Orderly Room.

                      Sick Call is held DAILY at 0745 SUNDAY at 0800. Emergency treatment is at the Area Dispensary. Personnel who have had
                      malaria and who have had a recent recurrence are requested to report to Area Dispensary for issuance at anti-malarial drugs.
                      (This is in accordance with War Department policy to insure that personnel will not be disabled while on leave & furlough.

10. UNIFORM. On departure from Camp Shanks, your uniform will be Class "A".

11. PAY Returnees (excepting Liberated Personnel) will not be paid at this station. Bank of Westchester, in rear of Post Headquarters,
                      (open weekdays from 1000 to 1800 will cash personal checks (when indorsed by unit or group leader). Maximum
                      checks: OFFICERS: $50.00: EM: $25.00 Identification will be required.

12. ENTERTAINMENT

AMPHITHEATER: When programs are scheduled - Orangeburg Road & Avenue B. (Area #7)

SERVICE CLUBS- East Service Club: (EM): Area B and Highview Avenue. (Area #7)

North Service Club: (EM): Western & Convent Road. (Area #5)

Officers Club: Avenue B & Victory Road. (Area #7)

Officers Club: (North Branch): Convent Rd. & Western Hgwy (Area #5)

SPORTS CENTER; Bowling & Outdoor Games: Bataan Road, between Avenue B 4 Western Highway.

THEATRES: #1 1800 & 2000: Victory Road & Avenue B.
                   #4 1839 & 2030 Orangeburg Road & between Avenues A & B.
                   #6 1830 & 2030; Western & Convent Road.

VICTORY HALL: When programs are scheduled: Corner of Avenue B and Victory Road,

13- AMMUNITION & INFLAMMABLES: Ammunition, cartridges, lighter fuel, and lubricating oil will not be put in rubbish. They will be turned in at time of processing. Souvenirs (Hand Grenades and other possible explosives will be taken to the Ordinance Officer {Bldg 9101 - Small Arm Section) for check as to safety, after which they will be returned to the owner.

14. ABSENCE FROM DISPOSITION AREA; No personnel will leave Disposition Area without permission of the Unit or Group leader; Unit or Group Leaders will not leave without permission of the Area Headquarters Adjutant. This applies to all absences, such as visits to the Poet Office, bank, or telephone center.

15. MISPLACED PERSONNEL: Individuals arriving here, who, through obvious error on the part of the government, have been placed in the wrong reception, station group, will report this fact at once to their reception station group leader or unit commander, who will upon verification of facts report this matter to the area representative of Military Personnel Branch.

16. POLICE: Barracks and surrounding areas will be maintained in a clean and orderly condition at all times. Unit and Group Leaders will rotate their personnel for local police duty (sweeping) in order to accomplish the above.

17. FRATERNIZATION; There will be no fraternization with Italian Service Unit personnel or with German POW’s on duty here. No relations whatsoever will be tolerated with this personnel, except Strictly in Line of duty.

18. RECEPTION STATION GROUP: Group Leaders are responsible for the control and discipline of their groups, both here and enroute to reception stations. Returnees, except when released by their Group leaders will stay together and be available at all times as a group.

19. AAF & AF LIAISON; AAF and AF liaison personnel will be in Building __ to answer any questions you may have peculiar to these major commands.

20. BEDDING: Troops will use the blankets they have with them. Those not having blankets will draw them from the Area Custodial Officer in Building __ Blankets drawn here

will be returned to the Area Custodial Officer before leaving (hour to be specified).

21. SERVICE RIBBONS: Initial issue of service ribbons which you are entitled to wear will be issued to you free of charge at your reception station. You will also be granted permission to purchase additional ribbons to which you are entitled,

22. MAIL. A. Your return address will be that used while on leave or furlough.

B. No mail is to be received at this station except for Categories II and IV Units.

C. Mall Orderlies should be appointed by Unit or Group Leaders.

D. Post Office is located opposite Railway Station on Western Highway.

29. CAMP BUS SYSTEM; Free ant frequent service to all points within the Camp.

24. BARBER SHOP; A. For Enlisted men, in most PXs.

B. For Officers, Building 091, Highview Avenue Ext. 781.
