BAND MEMBERS

Since the Band was treated as a Detachment, it had its own commander, Lt. Melvin V. Peterson (Hq Hq), who oversaw the administrative functions for the group but was not assigned directly to it, The Bandmaster was WOJG Oliver Margolin and remained as such until the band was reorganized as the 112th Army Ground Forces Band on 27 May 1944. 

The list below has been extracted from the Band Morning Reports in 1943 and 1944.  Unfortunately it doesn't reveal who played which instrument. It should be noted that some of the individuals were transferred out of the 508th at one time or another.  The complete list does not reflect the assigned personnel strength at any given time.  It began in October 1942 with the transfer of 9 men (see asterisks following surnames) from the 503rd PIR band,  In a fashion, they were the band's cadre.   The group appears to have had approximately 48 at the time it was reorganized.  Many of the men remained with the 508th and went into combat..
