The information presented herein is derived from a variety of sources such as the National Archives, published histories, and documentation provided by Hq1 veterans or their families.
A major source of information for augmenting the “memoirs” of the Hq1 men was the collator’s personal knowledge of the men, and his personal records.
The National Archives at College Park, MD provided a particularly lucrative source of information for the album. The archives are comprehensive. The facility is staffed with friendly, knowledgeable, helpful people - if the information you seek exists they will find it.
Especially helpful were the after-action reports prepared by the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment’s senior commanders. These reports were prepared following each major campaign, and reflect the personal perspectives of the individual commanders.
The primary source of information for Chapters I & II is the History of the 508th Parachute Infantry by William G. Lord, II, published by the Battery Press, Nashville, Tennessee.
Bill Lord served as a Lieutenant in the regiment during WW II and auth-ored several historical documents for and about the regiment. Many of the photos presented in these chapters and in selected memoirs were scanned from Bill Lord’s book.
Warren Brown and Jim Wynne provided copies of the Hq1 company picture taken at Blanding and Mackall. The individual photos accompanying the memoirs were scanned from these pictures. Thanks gents.
Many people contributed information, advice and encouragement for the development of this album, and we are grateful. The collator would like to thank everyone for his or her assistance and contributions
