”The Greatest of the Greatest Generation"

In December 1945, Mike Wargo left Hq1 for the United States and discharge from the service. Shortly thereafter, Mike re-enlisted and returned to Heddernheim, Germany where he again joined Hq1.

Following the deactivation of the 508th PIR in 1946, Mike served in the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, NC. 

In February 1949, Private First Class Wargo married Captain Jean Robinson in North Augusta, SC. They had five children Mary, Janice, Michael, Robert and John. They also had six grandchildren and two great grand-children.

In April 1963, Mike Wargo retired from the Army. At the time, he was an instructor in the Ground Mobility Department of the Infantry School.

Mike moved his family to central Florida where he was employed for twelve years at the McCoy Air Force Base in Orlando. Jean was employed as a teacher in the Seminole County School system.

In 1983, Mike and Jean Wargo began touring the States in a recreational vehicle and attended 508th  PIR Association and Hq 1 reunions. They chaired the 508th PIR Association’s 1963 reunion at Daytona Beach, Florida, and sponsored the Hq1 1998 reunion at Orange Park, Florida.

Jean Wargo died in 2002. She was interred in the Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors.

Mike Wargo resides at 507 Sandstone Drive, Van Buren, AR 72056
