PVT LEWIS P. BAKO
 

Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Compensation application for Pvt Lewis P. Bako and grave marker application for stone to be erected in Soldiers Section, Grave 172 of the Calvary Cemetery, Pittsburgh (Allegheny), Pennsylvania.

Lewis enlisted in the Army at Pittsburgh, PA on 11 January 1944 and after completion of basic raining and jump school was shipped overseas.

Pvt Bako was assigned to Hq Hq 508th PIR on 21 November 1944, On 9 December he was hospitalized fo an undisclosed illness and was discharged on 18 December as the regiment moved all its men forward to the Battle of The Bulge.

Pvt Bako was killed in action on 27 December 1944.  His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge awarded posthumously for the Ardennes Campaign, 18 December 1944 to 26 January 1945.
