PFC RICHARD J. BECK

2 More Pennsylvanians Killed in Vietnam War
   WASHINGTON (AP) Nineteen servicemen killed in action in the Vietnam war were listed Thursday in a Defense Department casualty list. They included these Pennsylvanians: Army Pfc. Richard J. Beck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles N. Beck. 4020 Kleber St., Pittsburgh. Army Pfc. Robert Quinn, husband of Mrs. Barbara A. Quinn, 3725 17th Street. Philadelphia, died not as a result of hostile action.

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Beck, 4020 Kleber St., North Side, accepted the Bronze Star, awarded posthumously to their son, Army Pfc Richard J. Beck. The award was given for "outstanding meritorious service" in Vietnam .

Richard was a ember of C Company, 508th Infantry.  His death on 4 August 1968 in Thien-Hue, Vietnam,  was classified was a "Misadventure, Ground Casualty" implying he did something foolhardy or reckless.

Whatever that may have been, he was put in for a Bronze Star and was cited for "outstanding meritorious service"
