SSGT DONALD E. BEERS

Grave marker for SSgt Donald E. Beers at Plot E Row 18 Grave 29 in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, France.

This commemorative certificate for SSgt Beers was issued by the ABMC.

On 28 March 1943, Ruth E. Edwards applied for a license to marry Donald E. Beers. of Hq 2nd., apparently sweethearts from their common hometown of Cleveland, OH.  Pvt Joseph R. Anderson of San Francisco (Hq 2nd) and Pvt Wayne B. Hoover, also of Cleveland, OH (Hq 3rd) were the witnesses. Since Hoover was in a different battalion but also from Cleveland, he and Beers, perhaps even Ruth, my have know each other prior to the men entering service.

The marriage took place in Rockingham, NC  on 30 May 1943.

SSgt Beers was killed in action on June 12, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart.
