PFC GERALD BRIGHTSMAN

Grave marker for Pfc. Gerald Brightsman at Plot N Row N Grave 1 in Margraten American Cemetery, Holland.

Pfc. Brightsman was killed in action on September 19, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster.

Also shown is a newspaper clipping regarding Pfc Brightsman's death  Note that his surname is misspelled as Brighton.  The article correctly credits his having been wounded twice and reveals that the initial wound occurred in Normandy on July 7th.  The wound was severe enough to require 5 weeks of hospitalization in England.  (Obit clipping courtesy of Lt.
