Cpl. Brown was killed in action on June 14, 1944 but it was not until 30 August 1944 that the news of his death was reported,  This article which appeared in The Manhattan Mercury, Manhattan, KS … listed six local men whose death had just been released by the War Department as having been killed In action in the European Area.  Included was "Robert G. Brown, Morland."

Cpl Brown's military decorations include the Purple Heart.
