Elmer registered for the draft in Anderson, SC on 11 September 1942 and enlisted in the the Army at Fort Jackson, Columbia, SC; on 16 October 1942.

On 23 October Pvt Bryant was transferred from the Reception Center, Fort Jackson, SC to Company B, 508th PIR.

Pvt. Bryant was killed in action on June 6, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart.

A memorial certificate was prepared in his name.
