Grave
marker for Pfc Frank H. Burak in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Bloomfield
(Essex county), New Jersey.
Frank enlisted in the Army in Passaic, NJ on 16 September 1940.
Pvt Burak volunteered for parachutist duty and was transferred to
Company E, 508th PIR just as the regiment was being activate4d at Camp
Blanding, FL. It is not known
what role Pfc Burak played in the Normandy and Holland campaigns but he
fought in the battle of the Bulge where he was killed in action on 2
February 1945 during the attack on St. Vith.
Pfc Burak was initially interred in the Henri Chappell
American Cemetery #1 in Plot 31, Row 6, Grave 107 until his remains were
repatriated and laid to final rest in New Jersey.
