Guenther enlisted at San Antonio, TX and served as a SSgt with Hq Hq
508th in January 1944 while attached from the 505th PIR.
In 1951,
Master Sergeant Burrer was a member of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.
His MOS was Infantry Intelligence and Reconnaissance Chief.
He was taken captured on February 12, 1951 while fighting the enemy in South Korea.
According to reports of liberated POWs, Burrer died while a prisoner on May 15, 1951. His
cause of death was not determined and his remains were never recovered.
For his leadership and valor, Master Sergeant Burrer was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Prisoner of War Medal, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal. |
