EDWARD D. CHARLTON

 

Burial record and grave marker for T/4 Edward D. Charlton in Morningside Cemetery, DuBois (Clearfield county), Pennsylvania.

 

Edward registered for the draft in West Brownville, PA on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Pittsburgh, PA on 29 December 1942.

Pvt Charlton joined Company I, 508th on 27 February 1943.

He was promoted to T/5 on 31 May 1943 and shortly thereafter to T/4.

On 30 June 1943, T/4 Charlton was admitted to a hospital where he underwent the removal of a brain tumor.

He was admitted to Walter Reed Hospital, Washington, DC in November 1944 and diagnosed with Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most aggressive type of cancer that begins within the brain and succumbed there.

 

His wi8sower father, Edward A., filed this application for benefits due to his deceased son under the Pennsylvania WWII Veterans Bonus program.  Since his son had died while on active duty, the full $500 bonus was awarded in his name.
