On 30 December 1948, the U. S. Army
Transport Barney Kirschbaum arrived at the Brooklyn Army Base bearing
the bodes of 4,384 war dead.
On of those men was Pvt Isaac Z. Cook

Killed in Holland
Funeral services for Pvt. Isaac Cook, formerly of
1133 42d St., who was killed in action on Sept. 19, 1944. at Nijmegen,
Holland, will be held at 8 p.m. next Tuesday at Fort Hamilton
Park. Burial will be in the National Cemetery at Pinelawn on
Wednesday, at 10 a.m.
Private Cook, a paratrooper, was 20 at the time of his death. He
served with Company 505 of the 82d Airborne All American Division, and
had seen action In Italy.
Besides his mother. Mrs. Irene Disa, of the 42d St. address, he
also leaves a sister, Edith Disa.

Isaac enlisted in the Army at New York
City, NY on 12 October 1942. On 17 October he was transferred from
Camp Upton, NY to Company A, 508th PIR.
Pvt Cook was hospitalized for reasons
unknown on 26 December 1942. On December 28, while still
hospitalized, he was transferred to Hq 1st. He returned to duty on
1 January 1943.
Morning report records for Hq 1st
between March and August 1943 are missing. It is presumed that Pvt
Cook was transferred during that period.
On 19 September 1944, Pvt Cook was
killed in action while serving with Company B, 505th PIR
He was initially buried in the
Temporary American War Cemetery at Molenhoek, Holland on 21 September
1944, in grave A-1-19,
