CPL NESMER COOK

Application for a headstone or marker and resulting headstone for Cpl Nesmer Cook in the Joe Hall Cemetery, Dry Creek (Knott County), Kentucky.

Nesmer registered for the draft on in Hindman, KY on 30 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison, IN on 6 November 1942. 

Pvt Cook was transferred from the Reception Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison to Hq Hq, 508th PIR on 113 November 1942.

He was promoted to Pfc on 1 May 1943 and then to the grade of Corporal on 5 October 1943.

Cpl Cook was reported missing in action on 6 June 1944 and later his status was changed to killed in action on 10 June 1944.  He was awarded the Purple Heart.

Initially buried in a field grave, he was reinterred at Blosville Temporary Cemetery. Plot E, Row 4, Grave 61 on 1 July 1944.  His remains were disinterred on 17 December 1946 and repatriated for a final burial at home..
