Nesmer registered for the draft on in Hindman, KY on
30 June 1942 and was inducted into the Army at Fort Benjamin Harrison,
IN on 6 November 1942.
Pvt Cook was transferred from the Reception Center at
Fort Benjamin Harrison to Hq Hq, 508th PIR on 113 November 1942.
He was promoted to Pfc on 1 May 1943 and then to the
grade of Corporal on 5 October 1943.
Cpl Cook was reported missing in action on 6 June 1944
and later his status was changed to killed in
action on 10
June 1944. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
Initially buried in a field grave, he was reinterred
at Blosville Temporary Cemetery. Plot E, Row 4, Grave 61 on 1 July 1944.
His remains were disinterred on 17 December 1946 and repatriated for a
final burial at home..
