Grave marker for 2nd Lieutenant John G. Delamater in the Bryan City Cemetery, Bryan (Brazos), Texas.

Lt. Delamater, was a graduate of the University of Texas-Austin and was commissioned in 1942, perhaps through the ROTC program.

John was just a year younger than his brother Benjamin Delamater who was also in the 508th.  John was assigned to Company I.

On 8 November 1943 the Morning Report shows his status was changed as of 5 November 1943 from "Absent Sick" to "Assigned to the Parachute School (Pool) Fort Benning".  The transfer may have been to take advantage of the hospital facility there although Ft. Bragg was adjacent to Camp Mackall.

Whether he was sent for hospitalization or his prior illness flared up is unknown.  John succumbed on 28 November 1943 of an unspecified illness.
