CPL THOMAS M. DOBBS
Word has been received that Corp. Thomas M. Dobbs, 21, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Dobbs of 324 North Willett, died on December 29, of wounds received in Belgium.
   Born in Lubbock, TX, Corporal Dobbs came to Memphis as a child. He was a Methodist. He participated in the invasion on Normandy.
   He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. Arbilee Kelly and Miss Doras Dobbs and a brother, J. E. Dobbs, Jr., all of Memphis.

Grave marker for Cpl Thomas M. Dobbs in Section 8, Lot W, 1A 217/218 in Forest Hill-Midtown Cemetery, Memphis, Tennessee.

Cpl Dobbs died of wounds on December 29, 1944 in the vicinity of the villages of Basse-Bodeux, Erria and Villettes, Belgium. He was awarded the Purple Heart.

 


 
World War II Memorial located in the Veterans Plaza, Overton Park, Memphis, Tennessee is dedicated to the memory of citizens of Shelby County hat gave their lives during WW-II.  It contains the name of Thomas Dobbs amongst the 875 local casualties listed.  Note:  The Doughboy statue seen to the right rear is a separate memorial to WW-I casualties.
