PFC MAX J. GRISSOM

Grave marker for Pfc Max J. Grissom in Shady Grove Cemetery, Springdale (Washington County), Arkansas.

Pfc Grissom was initially reported as missing in action as of June 6, 1944.  His status was later changed to killed in action in Holland on August 9, 1944.  He was o0sthumolusly awarded the Purple Heart.

NOTE: Pfc Grissom may have been one of the many paratroopers who drowned when they landed in areas flooded by the Germans.  if that was the case, he actually died on his 21st birthday.  The death date of august 9th reflects when his body was recovered.
