Alabama, WWII Military Dead and
Wounded, 1944-1946 documents that Lt Hamilton died of wounds. This
corresponds with Company E Morning Reports that he was wounded on 4 July
1944 and died the following day.

Lt Elbert F. Hamilton in the Elmwood Cemetery,
Birmingham (Jefferson county), Alabama. The memorial bench was
undoubtedly paid for by family members.
Lt Hamilton was initially assigned to
Company E, 508th PIR with additional duties of the S-3
(Training/Operations) for the 2nd Battalion. He was later
transferred to Hq 2nd and then to Company D.
Lt Hamilton participated in the jump
into Normandy on 6 June 1944. He was listed in Company D Morning
Reports as being seriously wounded on 4 July 1944 and then as having
died of his wounds on 5 July 1944.
He was initially interred in the
Blosville temporary cemetery in Plot D, Row 3, Grave 59. His
remains were repatriated and laid to rest in his home area. |
