Grave marker for Sgt Robert C. Hicks in Section C-24, Site13542 of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery,  Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Robert enlisted in the Army at Ft. Snelling on October 10, 1942 just in time to join the 508th as it was forming in Camp Blanding.  He was with the regiment when it jumped into Normandy and he was wounded there on 3 July 1944, probably in the area of Hill 30 where fighting was particularly hard on that day.  It is not known whether the injury required evacuation.

There is no indication of whether he was with the regiment for the jump into Holland, it is possible that he was still convalescing. What is known is that he was with the 508th during the Battle of The Bulge where he was killed in action on 7 January 1945.

He was posthumously awarded an Oak Leaf Cluster to the Purple Heart.
