TEC/5 HAROLD K. HINER

Application for a headstone and resulting grave marker for Tec/5 Harold K. Hiner in Section I, Site 121-Q, Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.

Harold registered for the draft on 24 September 1941 but was not inducted until 4 February 1943.  Tec/5 Hiner was transferred from Hq 82nd Airborne Division to Service Company, 508th PIR on 11 September 1944.  He was subsequently transferred to Company F on 21 November 1944.

Tec/5 Hiner was seriously wounded in action in Belgium on 30 December 1944 and succumbed to his wounds the following day.  On 2 January 1945 his remains were interred in Henri Chapelle #1 in Plot UU, Row 3, Grave 115.

He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and Combat Infantryman Badge.

As a result of the post-war repatriation effort, he was returned to his home state ands re-interred in the  Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery on 9 August 1949.
