1ST LT GEORGE JATROS

Cuban Vacation?
On 28 February 1941 George sailed on the SS Cuba (see line 8) from Havana, Cuba to Key West, FL. No record has yet been found showing when he went to  Havana.
Based on similarity of age and the fact that both were listed as currently living in Detroit, MI, George may have been traveling with a James Hudson, listed on line 9.

George enlisted in the Army at Detroit, MI on 29 June 1942.  He had three years of college under his belt and had been employed as a policeman by the city of Detroit, MI.  Those facets propelled him into OCS.

On 28 August 1944, 1/Lt Jatros was transferred from the 82nd Airborne HQ in Leicester England to Co D, 508th PIR in Nottingham where he took on the role of platoon leader.

George was with the regiment for the jump into Holland on 17 September and was killed in action on 29 September in the area of the Wylerbaan and Den Heuvel (Devils Hill). He was initially interred in Plot B, Row 4 Grave 70 in the Molenhoek Temporary Cemetery

Interment Record for George Jatros when he was re-interred in Plot F. Row 4, Grave 24 of the newly completed Margraten American Cemetery.
