Killed in Vietnam
The Defense Dept identified a Columbus soldier killed as a result of hostile action in Vietnam.
He is PFC Joel R Kelly husband of Mrs. Linda W. Kelly, 3620 Kuida Ave Columbus, Ga.
Kelly was a former resident of Union Springs, the son of Mrs. Marion Hubbard Kelly, a former teacher in the local high school. Funeral arrangements were not complete at press time

Last Rites For
Pfc Joel R, Kelly Funeral services for PFC Joel Rex Kelly, age 26, were held Friday at 4 p m from Striffler-Hamby
Chapel Columbus,. Ga. with the Rev J Sheril Jones officiating. Interment followed in Union Springs in the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Jack Tompkins, B. B. Sewell, Wallace G. Grant, Jr,, Julius Tompkins, William Bagler, Frank Clements, Jr., and Robert Dickinson.
PFC Kelly was killed in action in Vietnam May 13. He was a former resident of Union Springs and a graduate of Bullock County High School.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Linda Kelly of Columbus, his mother, Mrs. Marion Hubbard Kelly and a sister Mrs. Windle McKenzie, both of Columbus and several aunts and uncles.

married Linda Joyce Williams in Columbus, GA on 5 February 1968.
The newlywed was drafted into the Army and was deployed
to Vietnam on 15 April 1968 and was assigned to Company B, 508th PIR.
Sadly, just three weeks later, Pfc Kelly stepped on a
booby-trap device and was killed. |
