Application for a grave marker and resulting stone for Pfc Augustus D. Labate to be installed in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Cemetery, Middle Granville (Washington county), New York.

Augustus enlisted in the Army at Ft Jay, Governors Island, NY on 4 September 1941 and later volunteered for parachutist duty.

Pfc Labate was assigned to Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion, 508th PIR.  He jumped into Normandy on D-Day, 6 June 1944 where, according to an eyewitness account given by O.B. Hill, also of Hq 1st, "Labate was killed by a German with a machine pistol".

"Gus" was initially interred in the Blosville temporary cemetery in Plot H, Row 9, Grave 164.  His remains were later repatriated and laid to final rest in his home area.
