PVT LEGRANDE THOMPSON MANGUS

Pvt Mangus was killed in action on June 7, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart

On 22 August 1948 the remains of Pvt Mangus arrived at the Port of New York aboard the USAT Lawrence Victory.

It took another four months of processing and transportation by train before his casket arrived in Bountiful, UT and the family could lay him to his final rest.

For Pvt Mangus

   Memorial services for Pvt LeGrande T. Mangus , son of Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mangus of of Bountiful, [UT] will be held Sunday, Dec. 24 in the Bountiful Third Ward.
   Pvt Mangus was killed in action on the seventh of June in France, where he was serving with the paratroopers.  He had been in the armed forces for about four years, and with the paratroopers for two.  He went overseas in January, 1944.
   He is survived by his parents, his widow, Mrs. Lois Henman Mangus, and eleven brothers and sisters. Mrs. Ruth Pell, Mineral Wells, Tex.; Mrs Dale Wells, Lexington, Ky.; Mrs. Edith Follette, Mrs. La Maha Thomson, both of Salt Lake; Mrs. Myra Fowler of Casper, Wyo.; Mrs. Mildred Despain, Kennewick, Wash.; and Mula Mangus oif Bountiful; Lt. Harry Mangus, Ft. Wadsworth, N.Y., Glen, Norman, Okla.; Clarence, Lovell, Wyo.' and Ben Mangus of Bountiful.

   BOUNTIFUL --- Graveside military services will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Bountiful City Cemetery for Pvt LeGrande Thompson Mangus, veteran of World war II, who was killed in action in Normandy, June 7, 1944.
   A graduate of Davis High School, he was an elder in the bountiful Third Ward.  He was a news carrier for two years and was employed by the Bountiful Dairy for three years.
   He was born in Logan, Va. Jan. 21, [1923] at Lovell, Wyo. and trained at Ft. Lewis, wash., and at Ft. Benning, Ga. As a paratrooper.
  
 He is survived by his parents of 175 South Fourth East St., Bountiful; and the following brothers and sisters. Mrs. Edith Follette and Mrs Dale Wells, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Ruth Pell, Napa, Calif.; Miss Ula Mangus, Bountiful; Cpl. Bennie Mangus, Hamilton Field, Calif.; Mangus, Lavell, Wyo.; Mrs. Lamartha Hartung, Milwaukee, Wis.; Mrs. Mildred Despain, Kennewick, Wash.; and Mrs. La Maha Thomson, both of Salt Lake; Mrs. Myra Fowler, Grace, Ida.

   Friends may call at the Union Mortuary in Bountiful, Monday until 9 p.m. and Tuesday until 5, and at the family residence Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday prior to the service.
