Army Lists Dead In Western Drive Four Miami and
Miami Beach men have been reported killed in action in the European
theater of war, according to a War department casualty release, today.
They are: Sgt. Roy J. Huffman, husband -of Mrs. Leola I Huffman, 53
NE 63rd st, Miami; 2nd Lt. Robert Mathewson, son of John W. Mathewson, 8834 Froude ave, Miami Beach; 2nd Lt. James Semple, husband of
Mrs. Lorayne M. Semple, 777 NW 76th st. Miami; and Pfc. Noah E. Martin,
son of Mary Jane Martin, 3813 NW 37th st, Miami

Martin Returns
For Heroes Grave
Paratrooper Noah E Martin came home
Tuesday. But it wasn't the homecoming his mother had dreamed of since
he joined the Army five years ago.
'Bud' Martin was killed
during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium. His body returned under military
escort Tuesday
afternoon.
Pfc Martin MARTI will be buried with full military ceremonies exactly ' three years from the day he was killed.
At the Florida East
Coast railway station to meet the flag-draped casket were Bud's mother
Mrs. Mary J Martin of 3812 N W 37th ave and his sister Mrs. Dimple Lewis.
There was no ceremony, no speeches — just a few tears.
Mrs. Martin set
the date for her son's funeral without realizing it would be the anniversary
of Bud's death. She said she had decided on it so that the entire family
could attend the funeral.
It wasn't until Tuesday afternoon that she
realized the date had any special significance.
Survivors include Bud's
father Edgar W Martin of Nichols, three sisters, Mrs. Louise McDaniel, Nichols,
Mrs. Estey Powell, Tavernier and Mrs. Lewis and a half-brother Jesse L
Hobbs, Miami.
Services will be at 2 pm Dec 22 in Bess chapel. Burial
will follow at Flagler Memorial cemetery with a guard of honor attending
from William A McAllister Post 160S Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Martin,
who was 25 years old when he died, had attended Andrew Jackson high
school and was employed by a Hialeah pipe and concrete firm before he
enlisted. He had been wounded in Holland three months before he was killed

Noah registered for the draft in
registered for the draft in Miami, FL (date not included on the
form). Note that his address was changed from an original
location in Miami, to include the Elk River Concrete Products Co of
Montana as an employer in Helena, MT (that company remains in
business today) and then back to Miami.
Pfc. Martin was killed in action on
November 22, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart.
