Headstone Inscription and Interment Record and grave marker for Pvt James E. Mattingly.

Pvt Mattingly was killed on 20 June 46 during a practice jump in the vicinity of Heddernheim, Germany when his parachute failed to open due to an incorrect hookup of the parachute.

Pvt Mattingly was initially interred on 25 June 1946 in the St. Avold Military Cemetery, Plot CCCC, Row 12, Grave 135.  Following the end of hostilities, he was reinterred in the newly constructed Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial, just north of the city of St. Avold, in Plot K, Row 48, Grave 24 in the Lorraine American Cemetery and Memorial in France
