Additionally, a memorial plaque was erected at the Christ Episcopal Church Cemetery, Greenville (Greenville county), South Carolina where Robert was married to Annie Elizabeth Tedards on 31 Oct 1943.

Lt. Mitchell was killed in action on September 19, 1944.  His awards include the Soldier's Medal, Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster
