PVT WALTER G. NOVAKOVSKI

Burial record for Pfc Waller G. Novakovski in the Schowen Cemetery, Bancroft (Putnam county), West Virginia.

Walter enlisted in the Army at Huntington, WV on 25 May 1943.  Pvt Novakovski was transferred from Service Company, 508th PIR to Company D on 14 July 1944.

Pfc Novakovski was initially shown in he Company D Morning Report as Missing In Action on 17 September 1944, the day of the jump into Holland.

His status was later changed to killed in action on 29 September 1944 which may actually be the day that Graves Registration recovered his body.

Pfc Novakovski was initially interred in the Mook Cemetery in Plot B; Row 4, Site 70,  His remains were later repatriated for final burial in his home area.

His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge,, both awarded posthumously.
