CPL JOSEPH J. PASSAVANTI

  Army Corp. Joseph J. Passavanti III, 20, whose parents live at 316 Farragut av., Park Forest, was killed in Viet Nam by enemy gunfire near the Cambodian border May 24, his parents have learned.
   He was a member of the 82d airborne division and had arrived in Viet Nam Feb. 22, 1967 after he enlisted July 5, 1966. Rich Central to be High school, Olympia Fields just before enlisting [sic, some text is missing].

Had College Plans

   His father, a traffic manager for a south suburban manufacturer, said his son planned to go to Tulane university, New Orleans, after his enlistment was completed next year.
   Besides his parents, he leaves a sister, Mrs. Ann Marie Logeman of Quincy, Adams county, and a brother, Gary, 15.

Parents Receive Medals Honoring Sons' Valor

   Army Corp. Joseph J. Passavanti III, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph J. Passavanti, 316 Farragut av., Park Forest, was killed May 24 in Viet Nam by enemy gunfire near the Cambodian border.
   A member of the 82d air- Dome division, he arrived in Viet Nam Feb. 22, 1967, after enlisted July 5, 1966. He was graduated from Rich Central High school, Olympia Fields, just before he enlisted.
Planned to Attend Tulane
   His father, a traffic manager for a south suburban manufacturer, said his son planned to go to Tulane university, New Orleans, after his enlistment was completed next year.
   Passavanti was a radio-telephone operator on a combat operation in Thua Thien province when an enemy machine gun opened fire and badly wounded his company commander.
   Passavanti rushed thru enemy fire and had begun pulling the commander back to safety when he was mortally wounded, his citation stated.
   Passavanti also was awarded the Purple Heart, the national defense service, Viet Nam service, and the army good conduct medals; and master parachutist and combat infantryman badges.

Application for a grave marker and resulting bronze marker for Cpl Joseph J. Passavanti in Skyline Memorial Park, Monee (Will county), Illinois.

Cpl Passavanti, a member of C Company, 508th PIR, was killed in action by small arms fire sustained during an attack against his forward base camp.

His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal for Merit and the Purple Heart.
