(courtesy of Sara and Harvey Causey)

Memorial marker for Pfc Charlie B. Powell in the Whites Bridge Cemetery, Colquitt (Miller county), Georgia.

Pvt Powell was transferred from the Parachute Training School, Ft. Benning, GA to Company E, 508th PIR on 6 August 1943.  He was then transferred on 2 September to the 990th RS which may have been part of the Airborne Training Division as noted on the memorial marker.  His grave site in Margraten, however, has him registered as a member of the 504th PIR.

Pfc Powell was killed in action in the Groesbeek-Wylerbaan area on 26 November 1944* and was awarded the Purple Heart.  His remains were initially interred in the Plot B, Row 2, Grave 28 in the Molenhoek Temporary Cemetery.

His final resting place is in Plot: F Row 4 Grave 12 of the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.

* The memorial marker contains a typographical error with day of death shown as"16" rather than "26"
