Army In Last 4 Days
Nineteen men from this
district have enlisted in the United States army within the last four
days. Sergeant Bender of the local recruiting office announced yesterday.
Those who have enlisted are as follows:
[nr 2] George Lapso, Barnesboro.
[nr 12] Gerald B. Replogle, Woodbury
]Note: Lapso and Replogle were from
towns approximately 50 miles apart and probably did not know each other.
However, both volunteered for parachutist duty and were assigned to
Company A, 508th PIR. Lapso survived the war.

Gerald Replogle Cpl Gerald
.B Replogle, 26, a member of the paratroops, was killed in action i
France on June 14, according to word from the War Department. He
was a son of Mr. and Mrs. David Replogle if Woodbury, the youngest of 14
children.
H had been overseas since December, sailing from the states on
Christmas Day and langing [sic] in Ireland. He went to France with
invasion forces. His last letter, undated, was from England.
He is survived by his wife, of Altoona, his parents, and these brothers
and sisters: Mrs.. Roxie Over, Eva, Erb and Darleigh Replogle, all of
Woodbury; Rudy of Roaring Springs, Mrs. Esther Johnson, Robert, John and
Martin, all of Chester; Mrs. Orie Hanwell and Ellen, both of Denver;
William of Altoona and George of Ohio. He was a member of Woodbury

Cpl Replogle
was killed in action on June 14, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart
On 6 March 1950, Gerald's widow, Margaret Bessie
Replogle, filed this application for the WWII Veterans Bonus.
Because he had died while in service, she received the full $500 bonus
available.
