PFC Frank Riccitelli was killed in action during the invasion of Normandy during the first day of fighting in France. He was a paratrooper with the 508th Parachute Infantry.
His mother, Filomena Riccitelli lived at 1906 Seventh Ave.,
Watervliet at the time. At the time of his enlistment in Jan. 1941, Private Riccitelli attended Watervliet High School. He served more than 10 months in England before joining airborne troops on D-Day.
He is survived by two brothers serving in combat zones: Corp. Joseph Riccitelli who was serving in France at the time of Frank’s death and was later wounded in action in Germany on Thanksgiving Day according to a telegram from the War Dept. received by Joseph’s wife; Corp. Peter Riccitelli was with the artillery in Italy
Other brothers and sisters who survive are: Anthony and Daniel Riccitelli, Mrs. Amelia Capuano, and the Misses Mary, Rose and Anna Riccitelli of Watervliet. |
