SGT DAVID B. RICE

Grave marker for Sgt David B. Rice in Section B-1, Site 451-N of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis (Hennepin county), Minnesota.

David enlisted in the Army at Milwaukee, WI on 5 January 1943 and was initially posted to Camp Toccoa, GA.  He was later transferred to Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, 508th PIR.

On 15 February 1945 he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal For Heroic Conduct.  He was also awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead Device for the Holland campaign and Airborne operations.  Pvt Rice was promoted to the grade of Tec 5 on 27 June 1945.  The date of his elevation to the grade of sergeant is not known.

Sgt Rice died as the victim of a hit and run accident while stationed in Frankfort, Germany.  He was initially interred in the St Avold-Metz, Lorraine American Cemetery, St Avold, France.  His remains were repatriated and interred in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery on 15 February 1949.
