PVT CARLETON E. RICHARDSON
    (courtesy of "Marguerite")

Application for a grave marker and resulting stone for Pvt Carleton E. Richardson  in the Norway Pine Grove Cemetery, Paris (Oxford  county), Maine.

Carleton enlisted at Ft Devens, Massachusetts on 6 February 1942.  He was a member of Company A.

Pvt Richardson jumped into Normandy on D-Day, 6 June 1944.

He became Missing in Action as of 6 June 1944 but was not officially listed as such until 12 July 1944. Four days later his status was changed to Killed In Action as of 3 July 1944. This confused sequence of dates implies that his remains may not have been recovered until well after his death.

Pvt Richardson was awarded the Purple Heart and the Combat Infantryman Badge (CIB) posthumously.
