Two Paratroopers Killed In Crash
FAYETTEVILLE, May 16 (AP) — Two paratroopers were killed in the crash of a small plane near here
Saturday
They were M/Sgt. Bert E. Rimmer 26, and Sgt. Wayne L.
Wilson, 21, both members of the 82nd Division's provisional training
regiment.
The rented Piper cub in which they were flying stalled in the
middle of a loop and spun to the ground.
Sgt. Rimmer Is survived by his
wife, Mrs. Charlotte Rose Rimmer of Ft. Bragg, and Sgt. Wilson by his
wife, Mrs. Lora Mae Wilson of Lakedale.

marker and resulting stone for Bert E. Rimmer in Grand Army of the
Republic Cemetery, Miami (Ottawa county), Oklahoma.
Bert
registered for the draft ca. 1941 [note that the year is mistakenly
listed as his birth year which should be 1925] and entered service on 23
March 1944.
On 27 October 1945, Pfc Rimmer was transferred
to Co F, 508th PIR from either the 504th
PIR .
He was discharged on 13
November 1945 and immediately re-enlisted the following day. Taking advantage of a
generous re-enlistment furlough bonus, he was placed on TDY with the 6903
Reinforcement Battalion, Le Havre, France and was provided
transportation to the U.S.
On 7 April, 1947, he married
Charlotte Mott in the 504th Airborne Chapel No 16, Fort Bragg.
It was she who had the misfortune of
having to sign his grave marker application four years later. |
