Grave marker for Pvt Thomas H. Shelar at Plot C Row 14 Grave 8 in the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial in Colleville-sur-Mer, France

Pvt Shelar was wounded  in action on June 20, 1944 when he suffered a compound fracture of one leg and a bullet wound in his loin.

The fracture was set and placed in a splint or cast but the extent of the bullet wound was such that he died later that day.

He was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart
