SHOWALTER BODY TO LIE IN STATE
Published on April 18, 1948, nearly fours
years after Elmer's death, the article indicates that his body arrived
in New York City more than two weeks earlier. Once the casket
arri8ved in Kansas City and was transported to his hometown of
Baldwin, KS, the casket would lie instate at the local American Legion
Hall for a number of days before final interment. |

SHOWALTER
FRIEND KILLED IN NORMANDY AS WELL
Earle F. Williams, a chum of Elmer Showalter, also
became a paratrooper and was assigned to the 501st PIR, 101st Airborne.
Apparently they were stationed near to one another both in the U.S. and
U. K but never got to meet.
William's was KIA on D-Day and his remains lie in the Normandy
Cemetery. |
