First World War II Reburial Made At Honey Grove

Full military honors were accorded Cpl. Ora Clifton Smith at the reburial service here in Oakwood Cemetery Sunday afternoon, first to be held for a World War II service man brought back from foreign soil. Corporal Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Smith, was killed in Belgium Jan. 8, 1945.

The Rev. H. N. Bridges, Sherman Church of God pastor, officiated at the service in First Baptist Church here, and Cooper's Funeral Home made interment in Oakwood Cemetery.

Honey Grove Post No. 6970. Veterans of Foreign Wars, commanded by J. W. Hammack, conducted the military ceremonies, pallbearers being Allen Davis, Roy Davis, Herbert Nunnelly, Sam Dykes, Jesse Carder Jr., and Frank Jones, while the firing squad, commanded by Jack Martin, was composed by Jack Martin, Donald Bach, J. E. Meade, Delbert McCleary and Manuel Hohenberger. Officially escorting the body here from the Fort Worth Quartermaster Depot was 1st. Sgt. Jesse Davis.

Corporal Smith was born and reared in Honey Grove, Feb. 14, 1926. Besides his parents, survivors are these brothers, Horace W. Smith and Charles Smith, Fort Worth, and Sgt. Curtis Smith, San Antonio.

Pfc Smith, Service Company, was killed in action on 8 January 19445 and was awarded the Purple Heart posthumously.
