Grave marker for Pvt William J. Sobolewski in Holy Trinity Cemetery, Lowell (Middlesex), Massachusetts

Although a native of Massachusetts, William enlisted in the Army at Syracuse NY on 12 May 1941 where he and his wife lived. He was then employed as a shipping and receiving clertk.

A member of Company I, Pvt Sobolewski was killed in action on 8 January 1945 and was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge for action during the Normandy, France Campaign, 6 June 1944 to 9 July 1944 and the Purple Heart, posthumously.
