A BRIEF SUMMARY OF HAROLD'S LIFE;
Harold was born in Huntington, West Virginia, on the 2 Sep 1923, to
Arthur Taylor, of Woodbine Kentucky and Marie T. Taylor, (nee Friedrich),
born in Koblenz, Germany.
He grew up north of Detroit, Michigan in the city of Mt Clemens, the
oldest of five children, He was an average student through High School. Popular with his contemporaries, He liked sports, and was an avid
hunter and fisherman, though he excelled at automotive mechanics, and
rebuilding cars.
His sibling are, in order, Ruth M Herrick aged 84,Victor D Taylor aged
82, Marion T Beert aged 80, and Arthur Taylor Jr. aged 78. All of whom
are still alive.
Harold was drafted into the U.S. Army in
February 1943, and went to
Ft. Howze, Texas for infantry basic training, then advanced training with
E/2d Bn/341st Inf, of the 86th Blackhawk Division. In early 1944, Harold
transferred to the U.S. Army
Paratroops, and went to Ft. Benning, Georgia for jump school and
demolition training.
Harold was at home on leave, at the time of the
Normandy Landing, but shortly after he sailed to England where he joined
the 82d Air Borne Division. After more training jumps with that unit, he
participated in the Air Borne invasion on (Holland) Netherlands, and is
believed to have died in drop zone T, north of Groesbeck, NL On
Tuesday, 19th Sep 1944.
