Ller Killed in Vietnam

New Hyde Park—A 20-year-old New Hyde Park soldier; who frequently wrote his parents that be served with a “great bunch of guys” has been killed In action in Vietnam, the Defense Department announced yesterday. '

Spec. 4 Donald W. Vallen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald W. Vallen Sr. of 514 7th Ave., was killed May 14 while serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. “He loved his country very much and never complained," Vallen’s father said. “But he had rough times over there throughout his stay.”

Vallen enlisted in the Army a year and a half ago and was sent to Vietnam last December. He was a gradate of Holy Spirit School in New Hyde Park and Holy Cross High School in Bayside, Queens.

Vallen, the 375th Long Islander to die In the Vietnam war, is also survived by two sisters, Mary and Alice; a brother John, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Tuska.

New Hyde Park—A Requiem Mass will be offered Saturday for Spec. 4 Donald W. Vallen Jr., 20, who was killed May 14 in South Vietnam.

Vallen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald W. Vallen Sr. of 514 Seventh Ave., was killed in action while serving with the 82nd Airborne Division. A graduate of Holy Cross High School in Bayside, Queens, he was sent to Vietnam last December.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Mary and Alice; a brother, John, and his mater­nal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Tuska. The mass will be offered at 9:30 AM in Holy Spirit Church, with burial in the Long Island National Cemetery, Pinelawn.

Spc-4 Donald W. Vallen, Jr was killed by Small Arms Fire on 14 May 1969  in Hua Nghia Province, Vietnam

His military decorations include the Purple Heart.

On 16 September 1969 he was posthumously awarded the New York Conspicuous Service Cross
