PFC JOHN D. WADDELL, JR.

Headstone Inscription and Interment Record as well as grave marker for Pvt John D. Waddell, Jr. at Section A, Lot 27, Grave 65 in the Epinal American Cemetery, Epinal, France.

Pfc Waddell was killed in action  on September 19, 1944 and was awarded the Purple Heart.

Note that the interment record indicates John's remains were disinterred from "Cemetery 4650" which was the original Margraten in Holland and interred in Cemetery 3502 which is the Epinal Permanent Cemetery.  This movement was undertaken at the family's request to place he and his brother together.  They lie in the two graves closest to the right in the photo below.

John's brother, 2nd Lt Charles F. Waddell is buried adjacent to him in Plot A, Row 27, Grave 64.  Charles the bombardier on a B-26 Marauder belonging to the 587th Bomber Squadron, 394th Bomber Group, Medium.  The aircraft was lost in a mission flown on 14 June 1944 and all lives were lost.  He was awarded the Purple Heart an the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster
