Off To The Army Fronts

One hundred and forty-five Greater Cincinnati  inductees have been sent to replacement training stations from the Fort Thomas Reception Center, Major Harry B. Perkins, Public Relations Officer, announced yesterday.  They were distributed as follows:

To 508th Parachute Regiment, Camp Blanding, Fla. --- from Cincinnati, Avera Howard, Alley B. Lyon; from Norwood, Leslie H. Roberts; from Covington, , Harold V. Westbrook.

[Jumpmaster Note:  Bauer, Howard. Lyon and Roberts were all washed out of the 508th PIR training. and all were transferred to the 8th Infantry Division at Camp Butner, NC .

Grave marker for Sgt Harold V. Westbrook in the Little Rock National Cemetery, Section 8, Site 7288, Little Rock Arkansas..

Sgt Westbrook was killed in action on January 8, 1945.  

His military decorations include the Purple Heart and the Good Conduct Medal.

   Sgt Harold V. Westbrook, 24, son of Mrs.. Helen Westbrook, 2531 Highland Ave.,  Auburn, was killed in Belgium January 8 when serving with the paratroops.  He had been overseas since January 1944.   A graduate of Woodward high School, he worked for the Correct Optical Co., before being called into the service two years ago.

Bodies of 23 Men From Cincinnati Are On Army List

   Bodies of 23 Greater Cincinnati soldiers are among the World War II  dead that are being returned to his country from two U.S. Military Cemeteries in Europe aboard the Army Transport Robert Barrens, which is expected to arrive in New York tomorrow or Tuesday.
   Thirteen of the dead were from Hamilton County, 10 from Northboro, Kentucky/
   An Army release listed the Hamilton county men and the next of kin as follows:
