Viet War Victims
Two Southland soldiers were listed Wednesday by the Defense Department among latest Vietnam casualties, with their deaths attributed to other than hostile action.
They were Army Spec. San J. Favata, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter L. Favata 8843 E. Mines Ave., Pico Rivera, and Pfc. Richard Whipkey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph E. Whipkey, 3539 V o l k Ave., Beach. No details on their deaths were reported.

RICHARD WHIPKEY KILLED IN VIET, RITES SLATED
Services
will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Lakewood First Presbyterian Church 1 for
Army Pfc. Richard AIlen Whipkey, 19, who was killed in Vietnam on July
19.
Young Whipkey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Whipkey of 3539 Volk Ave.,
was a graduate of Millikan School, where he was in ROTC.
Also -surviving are brothers, Larry, Gary, Lonny, and a
grandmother, Mrs. Mary Jane Whipkey of Iowa.
Luyben Family Mortuary will direct the rites, which will include
full military honors.

Pfc Whipkey 508th Inf, Hq 1st, was
listed as having been killed by small arms fire and attributed to
"Accidental Homicide", i.e., "Friendly Fire"
His military decorations include the
Bronze Star Medal.
He is honored on Panel 51W, Row 15 of
the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC
