SGT BERNARD J. ZELINSKY

   The body of Sergeant Bernard Zelinsky of near the Connellsville Airport, who was killed in action July 5, 1944, in the Normandy Invasion, has been removed to the home.
   Born December 27, 1921 in Dunbar [PA], the soldier had been employed in the Crawford mine of the Galiard Coal Company and entered the armed forces February 9, 1942.  He served with Headquarters Company, Third Battalion, 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division.
   Surviving are his mother, Mrs. Nellie Zelinsky of Lemont Furnace, R.D. 1; two brothers, Joseph and Stanley Zelinsky, at home and three sisters, Mrs. Anna Clark and Mrs. Frances Nicklow of Mount Braddock and Mrs. Mary Franczyk of Footedale.
   A prayer service will be conducted at 8:30 o'clock Saturday morning at the home followed by requiem high mass in Holy Trinity R.C. Church in Connellsville with Rev. W. Iwaniski, pastor, as celebrant.  Interment will be in St.. Joseph's Cemetery at Hopwood.  Active pallbearers will be James Roche, Stanley Franczyk, Julius Hebda, Charles Gavocrik, Joseph Franczyk, and Andrew Jarosz.

Grave marker for Sgt Bernard J. Zelinsky in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Hopwood (Fayette county), Pennsylvania.

Sgt Zelinsky was killed in action on July 5, 1944.  Lt Neal Beaver reported that his death was caused by a short round from our own artillery during the attack on Hill 95.  Sgt Zelinsky was awarded the Purple Heart.
