FRANCIS L. AND ROSE P. MAHAN

Francis L. Mahan
   FAYETTEVILLE - Lt Col (Ret) Francis Leo., Mahan died at home Tuesday following a lengthy illness.
   He was born in Syracuse, NY to Augusta and Frank Mahan on June 17, 1919.  He retired fro the Army in 1967 as a lieutenant colonel.  He entered the service in 1937 and served in Troop K, a National Guard horse cavalry unit in Syracuse, NY, and was a Special Forces veteran and a combat paratrooper.  As a lieutenant Mr. Mahan lead [sic] a platoon in I Company, 508trh Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division during World War II.  e jumped into Normandy on D-Day in June 1944 and later into Holland where he was wounded.  He served in the Special Forces in Germany and Vietnam. 
   Throughout his military career he received his numerous decorations is the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster and Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster .
   Lt. Col.. Mahan is survived by his wife, Rose Capparell Mahan of the home, a son Michael Mahan of Winston-Salem; two daughters Judith Carmichael of Lincoln, Neb. and Alice Wessner of Raleigh; and one grandson, Brian Mahan  of Winston-Salem; several nieces and nephews.
   The family will receive friends tonight from 7-9 at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home.
   A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick's Catholic Church.  Burial will follow with full military honors in the Fort Bragg Post Cemetery.
   Memorials may be made to St. Patrick's Building Fund, c/o St. Patrick's Church, Fayetteville, NC.

   Retired Army Lt Col Francis L., Mahan died Tuesday in his home.

FAYETTEVILLE — Mrs. Rose Pauline Mahan, 94, devoted army wife, loving mother, grandmother and precious friend passed away at home Tuesday December 8, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband Lt. Col. Francis L. Mahan. She is survived by Alice Wessner of Raleigh, NC; Judy Carmichael and husband Ron of Southport, NC; and Michael Mahan and wife Cindy of Winston Salem, NC. Her grandchildren are Eric and Sarah Wessner, and Brian and John Mahan.
   Rose was born in Syracuse, NY on June 30, 1921. In 1946 she married and embarked on her life’s adventure. Over the next twenty years she called four European and three stateside cities home. For forty nine years she lived and loved in Fayetteville with Fran, family, and her friends.
   Rose was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Fayetteville, a volunteer at High Smith Rainey and Cape Fear Valley Hospitals, and a Fayetteville Care Clinic volunteer.
   A Mass of Christian Burial is at 9 am St. Patrick Catholic Church, Tuesday, December 15th. Monsignor Michael Shugrue is celebrant. Internment is at Fort Bragg cemetery at 11 am. There will be a reception at the church at 12 noon.
   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 2844 Village Drive, Fayetteville, NC 28304 or The Care Clinic, 239 Robeson St., Fayetteville, NC 28301.
