John J. Marshall, 90, passed away Monday, March 9, 2009, at
the V.A. Medical Center in Des Moines.
A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at McLaren's Chapel with
burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
John is survived by his wife of 43 years, Isobel; two sons, John Carl
Marshall and Ronald Marshall; daughter, Joyce Marshall; six grandchildren
and five great-grandchildren.
John was born in Des Moines, IA on December 16, 1918. He served in the U.S.
Army during World War II as a Sgt. in the 508th Parachute Infantry and
jumped into Normandy on D-Day, where he was captured and held prisoner until
liberated by Russians in January of 1945. He was the owner and operator of
Marshall Electric Company in Des Moines until his retirement in 1981. He and
Isobel moved to Largo, Florida where they resided until returning to Clive
in 2005.
John was a member of the V.F.W. and a Quartermaster for the State of Florida
P.O.W.'s.
He was a member of the Des Moines German- American Club, Masonic lodge,
Za-Ga-Zig Shrine and the Shrine band. He was known as a very forgiving
person.
Following the burial service there will be a reception at the Woodlands
Creek Clubhouse in Clive. (12675 Woodlands Parkway).
