LEON MASON |
MASON--Leon. Loving husband, father and grandfather. Born
April 25, 1919. Died December 8, 2003.
A noble member of the 508th Division, 82nd Airborne. Hero
at Normandy, Holland and Belgium. "You go through life once, and if you do
it right, once is enough."

Grave marker for Leon (Isreal) Mason in the
Lockman-Mason-Miller Plot of the Mount Ararat Cemetery, Farmingdale (Suffolk
county), New York.
Born as Leon Israel, he changed
his surname to Mason as an adult.
Leon enlisted at Ft Totten, NY on 15 January 1942 and was
initially trained as a member of the 507th PIR. On 16 October 1942 he
was one of many who were transferred to Camp Blanding, FL to act as cadre for
the newly activated 508th PIR.
Pfc Mason, known to many as "Gizmo", was assigned to Hq Hq
and was awarded the Bronze Service Arrowhead for his participation
in the Normandy assault. |
